Local San Diego nonprofit unites the community to take action and build support for projects advancing social justice
San Diego CA— One Love Movement, a nonprofit centered around raising awareness and support to advance social justice, will host its 8th Annual Charity Yoga Event on Saturday, September 21 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Waterfront Park in Downtown San Diego. The event features a yoga class along with a guided meditation, a live concert and talk with singer-songwriter and guitarist Trevor Hall, a Kids Corner and the first-ever Wellness Garden. Guests will be able to enjoy food and beverage vendors, as well as massages. All proceeds will benefit local San Diego nonprofit Voices for Children, that transforms the lives of abused or neglected children by providing them with trained volunteer advocates, as well the San Diego Rapid Response Network, that aids immigrant families in the San Diego border region, and the One Love Shelter in India, home to 17 boys in Bangalore, India.
“After a life-changing humanitarian trip to Haiti to visit local orphanages, I realized my passion for helping children around the world who are living in the shoes I was once in,” said Kim Bauman, Founder of the One Love Movement. “Having once been a foster kid in Korea, later adopted by a loving family, I realized my true calling was to help kids that I saw myself in. This sparked the One Love Movement and our mission to raise funds and build awareness for projects advancing social justice.”
The event gives San Diegans the opportunity to come together in one space to celebrate community, connect and give back. Guest yoga teachers Amy Opielowski, Beth O’Reilly and Kim Bauman will lead the hour-long yoga practice, followed by a short-guided meditation with Chopra Center’s, Dallas Kacev and John Beck on singing bowls. Come early for the pre-party, save your yoga mat space and enjoy the vendor fair with food & drink options, a Wellness Garden (think chair massages, acupuncture and reiki) and a Kids Corner with games and bubbles from a bubbleologist.
Doors open at 8 a.m. for the pre-party and the event starts at 9 a.m. Kim Bauman and beneficiary organizations will take the stage for opening remarks, to include a live podcast recording with Trevor Hall, before kicking off the yoga practice at 9:30 a.m. followed by a short-guided meditation. Steve Welty and DJ Jon Beezy will keep the entertainment rolling with a variety of music mixes, followed by Trevor Hall who will perform a live concert at 11:30 a.m. All food and beverage vendors will remain open until 12:30 p.m. Children of all ages are welcome. Tickets are available for purchase starting at $35 with a second option to donate more ($108) with the entire ticket purchase being a donation towards the cause, thanks to our sponsors. Tickets will increase day of the event.
Local humanitarian and yoga instructor, Kim is fueled with passion to give back to the community by turning her compassion into action. Kim created One Love in 2012 to advocate for social justice for children around the world in order to give them a voice. Since inception, the nonprofit has raised over $200,000 for San Diego organizations and another $60,000 globally.
