Carlsbad CA— The City of Carlsbad’s Cultural Arts Office is pleased to present Front Row Fridays: Turn It Up Band Competition Finals on June 14 at 7 p.m. at Ruby G. Schulman Auditorium, located at 1775 Dove Lane. Admission is free.
The Turn It Up Band Competition is a free program designed to showcase and develop emerging San Diego County musical acts, ages 18 to 25. In addition to performing opportunities, the program offers training and development opportunities for musicians, including classes in the city’s Exploration HUB featuring photo, audio and video editing, merchandise creation and more.
The two finalists will compete before a live audience for the opportunity to perform a preshow for TGIF Concerts in the Parks. Additional prizes will also be awarded. Details about the finalists are below.
Courtney Preis
Acoustic/Pop
Courtney Preis is a singer and songwriter. She is influenced by artists such as The Beatles, Joni Mitchell and Jason Mraz.
The Guest Room
Indie pop
The Guest Room is an up-and-coming indie pop band comprised of five musicians. Some of their main
influences include: Hiatus Kaiyote, Vulfpeck, Fleetwood Mac, Ben Howard, and Jamiroquai.
“This an exciting opportunity for our community to see these talented, young musicians in an intimate setting before they are performing to sellout crowds around the world,” said Cultural Arts Manager Richard Schultz. “The Cultural Arts Office is proud to give these artists, and many more like them in the future, a platform to elevate their craft to the next level.”
At a Glance
- A panel of judges will determine the winning act at the end of the event.
- The winning act will perform the preshow for TGIF Concerts in the Parks on July 5 at Stagecoach Community Park.
- Additional prizes for finalists include passes to the GenNext Music Program at the 2020 NAMM Show, Recording Arts workshops at MiraCosta Community College, a cash prize and more.
