Event to Inspire Carlsbad’s Next Generation of Leaders
Student-Led Program Brings Together Inventors, Innovators and Entrepreneurs to Share Life Lessons in Leadership
Carlsbad CA— Carlsbad Educational Foundation today announced the second annual “Learning to Lead,” an evening forum to be held Tuesday, May 21st, from 6:30-9:00 pm at the Dove Library’s Schulman Auditorium. Sponsored by CEF’s Student Leadership Council, the program is led by 40 high school students from Sage Creek and Carlsbad High Schools to provide a platform for local leaders to share important life, career and leadership lessons.
“We are thrilled to host this year’s leadership forum, which is energized by the passion and purpose shared by our young leaders,” said Michelle Ginn, CEO of Carlsbad Educational Foundation. “The students are working hard to prepare an engaging evening that celebrates learning and leadership, which will appeal to students of all ages.”
Founded in 2016, CEF’s Student Leadership Council empowers students to unlock their leadership potential through alignment with four key pillars: local community-based non-profits, corporate community involvement, leadership development and student ambassadorship. SLC members gain hands-on leadership skills and practical, real-world experience through monthly meetings, leadership curriculum, special speakers, student advocacy and volunteerism.
During the “Learning to Lead” forum, students will share highlights of their own personal leadership journeys while applying what they’ve learned to interactive discussions with special guests, including:
- Chris Birchby, Founder and CEO, Coola
- Gabriela Dow, Partner, Plug and Play Tech Center
- Michelle Vanderlinden-Enfield, Co-Owner, Goju Karate Center
- Rob Ruiz, Chef and Owner, The Land & Water Company
- Bryan Snyder, Creative Director, Snyder Art and Design
- Terra Teat, VP of Marketing, JLab Audio
About the Carlsbad Educational Foundation
The Carlsbad Educational Foundation (CEF) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that was founded in 1983, to raise private support for public education and contribute to the enrichment of nearly 11,000 students in the Carlsbad Unified School District. Since its inception, the foundation has contributed more than $9 million in funds to Carlsbad public schools, primarily for science, technology, and music – programs that would not be possible in California’s current school funding environment. 100% of donations go directly to support the Carlsbad Unified School District because CEF’s operating expenses are covered by student enrichment programs and Kids Care, a comprehensive before and after-school K-5 childcare program.
