Oceanside CA— At approximately 2:39pm this afternoon, Sunday March 3, 2019, a 9-1-1 call was received for a residential structure fire at 3230 Camarillo Ave, in Oceanside. While responding to the alarm, dispatch received multiple reports of smoke and flames seen from bystanders in the area.
The first Engine (E214 with RA214) arrived in approximately five minutes from the time of the alarm and found heavy smoke and flames coming from an upstairs bedroom. The crews pulled attack lines and advanced inside the structure for an aggressive search for any occupants and control the fire. Additional arriving units supported the firefighters working inside to clear the house and extinguish the fire. Truck company crews placed ladders, went up on the roof to ventilate the structure and allow for heated smoke to clear inside the house while crews locate the origin of the fire.
The fire was contained to a second story bedroom and extended down a hallway causing significant damage to the entire upstairs of the residence. The fire was completely under-control in approximately twenty minutes. The occupants were home when the fire started upstairs in a back-bedroom. A young female reported seeing thick black smoke coming from a vent inside her upstairs bedroom, then ran down stairs to inform her mom. They were all able to self-evacuate the residence safely and no injuries were reported.
Damage was limited to the second story as a result of a quick response from first arriving units in the area.
An investigator with the Oceanside Fire Department was working with the residents to help determine the cause and any contributing factors to help complete the investigation.
The residence will be displaced from the house due to the amount of fire damage.
