Carlsbad CA— Looking for spring and summer camps? This year’s lineup includes sports, art, aquatics, specialty and science camps and other programs for kids 3 to 16. Registration begins March 6.

At a Glance

• Spring camps are offered April 1-5. Summer camps run from June 17 through Aug. 23.
• The camps are included in the city’s Community Services Guides, which are available in all community centers, city buildings and on the city website.

Camp Themes

Camp themes include art, aquatics, science and exploration, sports and fitness, or day camps that run all summer long. A small sample of some of the camps offered this year include:

• Film Making, where future moguls learn how to create a storyboard, write a screenplay and produce a film.
• Junior Zoo Keeper, where future animal stewards learn about all types of mammals, reptiles, birds and bugs; build habitats, prepare diets and meet live animal friends.
• Stem with LEGO, applies real-world concepts in physics, engineering and architecture to create engineer-designed projects such as trains, helicopters and treehouses.
• Comicamp, where campers can be the super hero of their very own comic book by creating story lines and incorporating art to present their original story to the world.
• Monster Mash Mania, where campers travel to the depths of the ocean and the outer limits of space to meet enormous sea monsters, massive land creatures and silly alien friends.
• Top Chef, where novice chefs will learn how to make several delicious and fun dishes. This camp features delectable competitions with plenty of challenges Menus are prepared and the restaurant is open at the end of the week for family and friends.
• Sewing, where budding designers can learn how sew, finish and iron seams, attach closures, cut patterns and make simple garments.
• American Girl, where campers can learn to make doll jewelry and accessories, make treats to enjoy at tea parties and pajama parties, and learn about their doll’s heritage.

“Our Summer Community Services Guide is filled with more than 60 pages of activities for your child to enjoy summer, including hundreds of swim lessons for children of all ages and ability,” said City of Carlsbad Senior Management Analyst Bonnie Elliott. “We also offer science camps, creative arts camps, even a class on how to survive in the wilderness, so there’s truly a camp for every interest.” Elliott encourages parents to sign up early, since many camps sell out.
