Oceanside CA— On Friday February 8, 2019 at approximately 2:07am, the Oceanside Police Department responded to calls of a serious injury collision involving a single vehicle into a tree on Melrose between Meadowbrook and Sagewood in the City of Oceanside. Officers and Paramedics arrived to find a 37-year-old male in the driver seat of a Subaru Impreza, unconscious, with severe head injury.
The driver of the vehicle, Eric Daub of Oceanside, succumbed to his injuries and passed away in the early morning hours of February 16, 2019.
Based on the physical evidence at the scene, it appears the vehicle was traveling at a high speed and lost control while traveling northbound on Melrose. At this time, it does appear that alcohol was a factor in this collision.
The investigation is still ongoing as to if another vehicle may have been involved in a speed contest with Daub.
The Oceanside Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team is conducting the investigation.
Anyone with information regarding this collision is asked to call Accident Investigator Candido Guevara at (760) 435-4068.
