October 18, 2015
Encinitas barely cracked the top 20 Best Cities for California Families in a recent study by WalletHub, a consumer financial information website.
“Because it’s not all moonlight and roses everywhere in California — or in terms of particular factors such as public K-12 education and housing affordability — WalletHub analysts searched for the Golden State cities that are most conducive to family life,” the company said in its report.
In compiling its 2015 Best and Worst Cities for California Families list, WalletHub looked at 240 cities across 22 metrics, such as family attractions, educational opportunities, number of pediatricians per capita and unemployment rates.
Two North County cities cracked the top 20 of the best cities, according to WalletHub — Poway at No. 15 and Encinitas at No. 19. Carlsbad ranked No. 56 on the list.
Other San Diego County cities that made the list out of 240 total: Santee (42), San Diego (96), Chula Vista (106), San Marcos (123), La Mesa (131), Oceanside (151), Vista (173), Escondido (175), El Cajon (218) and National City (229).
