Oceanside CA— Boys & Girls Clubs of Oceanside (BGCO) received $1,000 from The Union Bank Foundation to grow and expand the STREAMing Ahead Program.
BGCO recognized early on that our youth needed to be better prepared in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) in order to have the skills needed for future success.
To address this gap, BGCO implemented STREAMing Ahead, a Science, Technology, Research, Engineering, Arts, and Math program to help our youth develop a greater interest in these fields. The program aims to inspire career interest in the area of STREAM.
BGCO collaborates with Genentech, Women in Aviation, Solutions Farms Aquaponics, Kaima Farms, and other community businesses. Each of these partners gives youth real life examples of STREAM in action to spark their interest and become inspired by people working in the field.
Over the summer, as part of a hands-on learning experience, members adventured out with the Oceanside Outriggers to learn about the ocean and its many ecosystems. One teen even caught a thresher shark- talk about an experience of a lifetime!
“Thanks to supporters like Union Bank, we are able to broaden the horizon for our youth in the world of STREAM,” said Jodi Diamond, CEO. “With this funding, we will have more opportunities to ensure each member has a chance to learn and explore.”
