Oceanside CA— The Oceanside Pirates bounce back from their 71-41 home loss last week to Torrey Pines and take the 2018 City Title with a 46-30 win over the El Camino Wildcats Friday night at Herb Meyer Stadium.
After swaping punts, Oceanside QB, Kyrin Beachem’s pass to Dylan York at the 4 yard-line set up Kavika Tua’s 4-yard touchdown run capping off a 4 play, 48 yard drive and a 7-0 lead.
The Wildcats came right back scoring on a 15 yard touchdown run by Noah Sega but the extra point attempt failed and the Wildcats trailed by one. Sega would put the Wildcats on top for the first time of the night with a 35 yard scamper up the middle. 7-13 El Camino with 9:29 left in the first half.
The lead was shot lived. Kyrin Beachem scrambled up the middle, broke several tackles and sprinted 19 yards down the right sideline for the score. Carlos Aranda’s kick for the PAT hit the right upright and the game was tied at 13.
El Camino would take their second lead of the night on Zion Jackson’s 22 yard field-goal, 13-16 with 1:32 left in the half.
That lead would be the Wildcats last of the night as the Pirates broke the game open scoring twice in the final minute and twelve seconds of the half.
On the first play from scrimmage after the kickoff, Kyrin Beachem would take it the distance and then hit Jacob Flores for the two-point conversion to take a 21-16 lead.
Pirate CB Jaylin Moncrief would intercept a Brock Manber pass and return the ball to the Wildcats 33 yard-line setting up the final score of the half. Kyrin Beachem scrambled to his left breaking several tackles then threw a dart to Kavika Tua on the right sideline for the score and a 28-16 lead going into the locker room.
Kavika Tua, who had 220 all-purpose yards on the night, would score two more times in the third quarter building the Pirates lead to 40-16.
With the win, the Pirates end the regular season at 5-5, 2-4 in league play. The Wildcats who haven’t tasted victory since their 17-16 opening day win over Point Loma finsh at 1-8, 0-5 in league play.
In other scores, Torrey Pines(9-0) continued their Avocado League dominance shutting out La Costa Canyon(6-3, 2-3) 38-0. Carlsbad(6-3, 3-2) traveled to Vista(6-4, 2-2) and shut down the Panthers 28-0. San Marcos(8-1, 4-0) trampled cross town rival Mission Hills(3-6, 2-3) 35-7.
