Fallbrook CA— Friday evening, August 3, 2018 at 6:30pm, a 58-year-old female from Fallbrook was driving her Toyota Rav4 northbound on Heald Ln. preparing to make a right turn into a parking lot adjacent to the roadway.
An 8-year-old girl from Fallbrook was walking northbound on the sidewalk with two family members across the entrance to the parking lot. For reasons still under investigation, the driver of the Rav4 failed to observe the child as she pulled into the parking lot and struck her.
The young girl was treated at the scene and was transported to Rady Children’s Hospital. Unfortunately, the child succumbed to her injuries while being transported.
Alcohol or drug use is not considered to be a factor in the incident. The roadway was not affected during the investigation.
