Oceanside CA— Sparkle Plenty Resale Boutique will be closing their doors for the final time at the end of March. The Thrift and Consignment store, owned by Carolyn Ramberg, has been in business for more than 30 years.
“It is with a heavy heart that I regret to inform you the time has come to close our doors at Sparkle Plenty. After more than 30 years in retail, I have decided to retire and spend time with my family,” Carolyn shared in a letter to her friends and customers on Facebook.
Carolyn opened the first Sparkle Plenty on Apple Street where they were located for twelve years prior to their move to the current location, 1816 Oceanside Blvd, Suite F, next to Frazier Farms.
“We had about 3,000 consignors at the Apple Street store. It was wonderful. Over the years, I have had close to 7,000 consignors and about 500 active all of the time. Not just local but from across the country,” said Carolyn. “It has been beautiful. We have served generations; the mothers, the daughters, their kids and now the grandchildren.” added Carolyn, “We’ve had a few celebrities come through here as well.”
Sparkle Plenty has given back to the community throughout the years. “We’ve done things for small non-profits and churches along with fashion shows for groups like Civitan, Soroptimists, Women’s Club and when we donate, we donate to groups like Last Chance. We choose the smaller organizations like that which don’t receive a lot of donations.”
Many of the employees have been with Sparkle Plenty since the beginning. “Most everybody had been with me fifteen plus years before they retired themselves,” Carolyn said. Many, like Raquel Paz who worked at the store before going to college, have returned to help out during the final weeks as Sparkle Plenty liquidates the inventory and assets. Inventory is currently on sale at 50% off with evening gowns, long and short discounted 70%.
Family dynamics and family losses including Carolyn’s son-in-law who passed away from cancer in January and her daughter who passed away unexpectedly two weeks ago, lead to the decision to shut down the store. “It was a big decision to close the shop. I had to get struck by lightning a few times before I said, that’s it. It’s time. Our time is so short and family is so precious. We are going to go out on a high note,” continued Carolyn, “March 31st is going to be hard. I am grateful for all of the amazing people I have met and all of the friends I have made but I am looking forward to spending more time with my family.”
