Carlsbad CA— Late last night, February 4th, 2018 at 10:13 p.m., Officers from the Carlsbad Police Department responded to area of Carlsbad Village Drive and Peninsula Drive regarding a report of a serious injury collision. Upon arrival, Officers found that a Toyota pick-up, operated by a male driver, had collided with a guard rail at that location at a high rate of speed.
After impacting the guard rail, the vehicle then struck a tree and a parked car, causing it to overturn and come to rest on its roof in the driveway of a residence on Peninsula drive.During the crash, the driver was ejected from the truck and was found lying on the sidewalk by responding personnel.The Carlsbad Fire Department arrived and provided advanced life support to the male driver. The driver was subsequently transported to Scripps La Jolla where he was pronounced dead from his injuries.
The preliminary investigation suggests that the driver of the vehicle was proceeding Eastbound on Carlsbad Village Drive at a high rate of speed, ran the red light at College Blvd and struck the guard rail at the intersection of Carlsbad Village Drive and Peninsula a short distance later. Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor in the accident. The driver was identified as a 29-year-old male from San Diego.
Traffic Officers responded to the scene to conduct a full investigation.
