San Diego CA—At The Wine Pub, there is no better pairing than wine and puppies. On January 31, Point Loma’s favorite wine bar and restaurant invites locals and their four-legged friends to its patio to kick off the first “Woofer Wednesday” of the year. This year’s chosen beneficiary, Rover’s Retreat, is a local dog rescue organization that finds homes for dogs that are homeless, sick, abandoned or elderly.
Eight years ago, The Wine Pub began this weekly event that donates ten percent of every person’s check that dines in with their pooch. The restaurant has raised over $6,000 to date and provided a place for homeless pups to meet with potential owners, both intentionally and unintentionally.
“Woofer Wednesdays has bloomed into something more than just writing a check,” said Sandy Hanshaw, owner of The Wine Pub. “It’s become a place where neighbors get together after dog walks for a glass of wine, a home for our partnering organizations to host fundraising events and a place where future pup-rents bond with adoptable dogs.”
Past beneficiaries of Woofer Wednesday’s include The Rescued Dog, Canine Companions for Independence and, most recently, Animal Rescuers Without Borders.
“Our staff had a great time coming out for Woofer Wednesdays and especially appreciated the ambiance, wag-friendly patio and kind staff,” said Christy Dolan, Animal Rescuers Without Borders volunteer. “The proceeds gifted by The Wine Pub has allowed us to continue our mission to improve lives of companion animals through spaying and neutering, providing medical treatment and creating the best fostering programs while we find fur-ever homes for many pups that so desperately want to be part of someone’s family.”
The event kicks off on Wednesday, January 31 at 4 p.m. A representative from Rover’s Retreat will be there between 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. No reservations needed, but The Wine Pub asks for those interested to RSVP here.
