Oceanside CA— Oceanside Promise’s inaugural book drive for young children collected 12,480 books exceeding their goal of 10,000. The books are getting directly to the hands of young children through the Oceanside Unified School District’s school sites, the City of Oceanside Library’s Book Mobile, and our nonprofit partners Education Begins in the Home and Vista Community Clinic.
We are confident the books will be treasured by Oceanside’s children as they help them in their journey toward improved early literacy and Kindergarten preparedness.
Special thanks to our Early Childhood Success collaborative action network co-chairs, Marie Town (Civic Center Library) and Silvia Alcantar (Vista Community Clinic) for their continued leadership and support of the community-wide drive. Much gratitude to all of our volunteers who helped with book pick up, counting, sorting, and labeling. Once again, thank you all of our participating organizations (here) and the volunteers who coordinated internal and external book drives.
