Oceanside CA— The Women’s Resource Center(WRC) is looking for people interested in volunteering at WRC for Crisis Intervention Training.
Beginning Saturday January 6th they will start their 56 hour training for Sexual assault response team advocates and hotline advocates. This training is required by the State of California for any one working with domestic violence victims or sexual assault victims. The Training days are January 6th to January 25th. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from 6pm to 9:30pm and Saturdays 9am-4:30pm. There will also be a field trip TBA.
During the training you will learn the dynamics of DV and SA and how to provide crisis counseling. The training will consist of a variety of speakers such as police officers, district attorney, Indian Health, Military advocates, suicide prevention and more. These speakers will teach you how to respond to a person in crisis and what the community does for these victims. You will receive a certificate upon completion allowing you to volunteer for any domestic violence agency or sexual assault agency in California.
Sexual assault advocates will sign up on a calendar to cover at least 2 shifts per month. Shifts are week day evenings 5pm till 5am and weekend days. If there is a sexual assault during your shift you will respond to a forensic office in either Escondido or Poway. You will then provide advocacy and comfort to the victim before during and after their forensic exam. It is a very rewarding work. Hotline volunteers work from home and answer the agency after hours hotline.
