San Diego CA— Feeling a little overstuffed after your Thanksgiving dinner? Take a walk through Global Winter Wonderland’s dazzling display of traditional Chinese lanterns! The event is open at SDCCU Stadium during all winter holidays, including Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Eve/Day.
Open for the first time in San Diego this holiday season, Global Winter Wonderland is an international celebration featuring the largest display of traditional Chinese lanterns outside of China, plus amazing acrobatics, carnival rides, holiday-themed activities, games, and international food and shopping.
Open through Jan. 7, 2018, Global Winter Wonderland’s large, luminescent, hand-crafted lanterns are inspired by international landscapes and landmarks, such as the Taj Mahal and Eiffel Tower, allowing guests to “travel around the world” for the holiday season. The event spreads across 17-acres of SDCCU Stadium with dozens of larger-than-life structures, and up to 100 dazzling displays – many of which are have been newly designed and constructed for San Diego, which marks the fourth city to host this distinctive event.
Nearly 50 Chinese artisans spent several weeks in San Diego hand-sewing the intricate lantern displays, some reaching heights of more than 20 feet. The construction begins by molding wire and welding steel to make the frame of the lantern. Then, energy efficient LEDs are wired to the inside structure and colorful silk is stretched across the framework. Final additions such as airbrush paint are added to give lanterns a unique look.
Tickets are available for purchase at www.globalwonderland.com. Adult tickets are $22, while children (ages 4-12) and senior (aged 62 or older) are $19.
