Oceanside CA— Brother Benno’s Auxiliary holds their 21st Annual Luncheon Fundraiser to benefit the Brother Benno Foundation. Tickets on sale now.
Brother Benno’s Auxiliary is excited to announce their 21st Annual Luncheon and Fashion Show to benefit the Brother Benno Foundation on Saturday, December 2 at the Sheraton Carlsbad Resort and
Spa, 5480 Grand Pacific Dr., Carlsbad.
This year’s theme, “A Legacy of Love and Service” honors Harold Kutler, founder of Brother Benno’s. This is the Auxiliary’s 21 st year of financial assistance, service, and support to the Brother Benno Foundation.
Brother Benno’s was started by Harold and Kay Kutler as a Soup Kitchen in downtown Oceanside. They named it after Brother Benno Garrity, a Benedictine monk who was well known for his tireless service to the poor in the Oceanside area. The first meal was served on October 21, 1983.
For the first few years, those who came to the Kitchen were mainly street people. Now most of our guests are the working poor (parents and children who struggle on a daily basis for their most basic needs), the disabled, and low-income senior citizens. In order to provide these needs, Brother Benno’s has expanded its services beyond food. Services include:
● Clothing, Showers, Laundry, Mail & Telephone Service
● Replacement of Identification, Bus passes and Emergency Rent & Utility Assistance
● Education Scholarships, Aid to Military Personnel & Veterans
● Men’s and Women’s Recovery Program
Last year alone, Brother Benno provided 62,401 breakfasts, 42,460 sack lunches, 18,644 food boxes, 67,204 clothing items, 1 4,370 showers, 1,905 blankets, 1,459 bus passes and provided emergency rental and utility assistance to 560 families. Brother Benno’s also provided over 11,800 meals and over 12,000 nights of shelter for our Recovery Program members.
Brother Benno’s recovery program is a 26-week, 2-phase, 12-Step recovery support, and work program for men and women. These men and women, committed to changing their lives, work at the Brother
Benno Center and Thrift Shop in exchange for a safe and supportive environment. All of Brother Benno’s Program Members’ basic needs (housing, food, and clothing) are provided while they work on their recovery via attending AA meetings and receiving mentoring from a sponsor.
Individual Tickets are $75; Table of 10 is $750. Valet parking is included. There will also be a Silent Auction, Door Prizes, Opportunity Baskets and, of course, the Annual luncheon’s now “famous” Thrift Store Fashion Show . Doors open at 11:00 a.m. and the lunch and program begin at 12:00 noon.
