Elevated surf and strong rip currents Tuesday and Wednesday
San Diego County CA— A beach hazards statement has been issued for north San Diego County along with Orange County coastal areas effective today through Wednesday evening. Surf of 3 to 6 ft with sets to 7 ft along southwest facing beaches north of Del Mar.
A Beach Hazards Statement indicates an increased risk for swimmers, surfers. Rip currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea. Large breaking waves can wash people off beaches, jetties, rocks and capsize small boats near shore.
If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don’t swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shoreline and call or wave for help.
Obey posted warning signs and flags and talk to a lifeguard before swimming. Use caution when in or near the water and always swim near a lifeguard.
