Carlsbad CA— Michael (Mike) Calderwood, a career firefighter and currently an esteemed City of Carlsbad Fire Department Division Chief, has joined the Hospice of the North Coast (HNC) Board of Directors.
HNC Board President and retired Carlsbad City Manager Ray Patchett states, “Mike’s dedication, professional expertise and unstinting service to his community are a welcome addition to our Board and will bolster HNC’s ability to provide a full spectrum of comprehensive and compassionate hospice care to terminally ill clients and their families throughout North County.”
Division Chief Calderwood serves as Chief Officer in charge of Fire Department Operations. Prior to his 2013 appointment, Chief Calderwood served the Carlsbad Fire Department as a Paramedic/Firefighter, later ascending to Captain and Battalion Chief. He also previously worked for Cal Fire/City of Pismo Beach.
Among his many recognitions, Chief Calderwood has earned Meritorious Service Awards for the 2007 San Diego County Firestorms and 2014 Poinsettia Fire. He has served as Chair of the San Diego County Fire Operations Chiefs and taken a leadership role in other multi-agency organizations.
Chief Calderwood lives with his wife and two daughters in Carlsbad. He states, “Having worked my entire career to safeguard the quality of life in our community, I look forward to serving Hospice of the North Coast as it strives to better the quality of life of people during their time of transition.”
Nonprofit Hospice of the North Coast was established in 1980 to fill the need for comprehensive, compassionate hospice care in North County San Diego.
