Oceanside CA— Lighthouse Christian Church in Oceanside recently converted to Sullivan Solar Power, and held a ribbon-cutting ceremony with their members to celebrate. The 142,708-watt solar power system, will save the church over $1 million during the next 25 years. This is without taking rising utility rates into the equation (which would equate to greater savings).
About 30 members of Lighthouse Christian Church gathered for the Sunday solar ribbon-cutting ceremony. Pastor Mike, of Lighthouse Christian Church, kicked off the ceremony with a quote from the bible.
“God said, ‘Let there be light’ and there was light. God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light day, and the darkness He called night. And there was evening and there was morning, one day.”
Pastor Mike continued to highlight how Lighthouse Christian Church is now utilizing God’s gift to power the church, saving money and reducing their carbon footprint. The output of the solar power from this local church’s solar power systems equates to 107,201 pounds of coal not burned to produce electricity or 11,285 gallons of gas not consumed.

Many local churches are going solar and seeing these multiple benefits, prompting some leaders to encourage their members to adopt solar on their homes to reduce their carbon footprint.
Lighthouse Christian Church utilized CollectiveSun to finance this solar project, CollectiveSun is a local company founded in 2011 on the principle that all nonprofits and tax exempt organizations should have better access to solar power.
