San Diego County CA— The El Camino Wildcats come from behind to beat the Rancho Bernardo Broncos, 22-29 and improve to 2-0. The Wildcats didn’t trail in this game until 1:50 left in the contest.
Daniel Naranjo got El Camino on the board first with a 25 yard pick-six. The Wildcats would score again mounting an 85-yard drive. Chris Brown had rushes of 17, 32, 11 and 7 yards while Wayne Steward finished the drive with a 20-yard rushing TD around the left side. The Wildcats were up 14-0 with 1:46 left to play in the first quarter.
The Broncos got on the board with a 25 yard rushing touchdown by Jack Gaylord.
The Wildcats answered with a 3 play 80 yard scoring drive. Jayden Casey hit Malachi Russell for 62 yards to put El Camino up 21-7.
Christian Lewis threw a 20 yard strike to pull the Broncos within 7, 21-14 at the half.
In the second half, the Broncos would get into the red zone twice and two times the Wildcats defense would shut them down. A mishandled snap by Bradley Bryant on a field-goal try ended the first scoring opportunity and Wayne Steward’s second interception of the night ended another.
The Broncos finally got into the end-zone to pull within one. Instead of opting for the tie, the Broncos went for the lead. Christian Lewis hit TE Matt Quis to complete the two-point conversion for a 22-21 lead with 1:50 left in the game.
Jayden Casey marched the Wildcats down the field, hitting Wayne Steward four times and ending the drive with a 40-yard scoring strike to Brandon Johnson. The 2-point conversion was good with 16 seconds still left on the clock. With the loss, RB falls to 0-2 and will face Otay Mesa(1-1) next week.
El Camino will travel to Perris where they will meet the undefeated Hawks of Citrus Hill.

Westview Shuts down RBV
By David A. Willauer-Contributing Writer — After a 41-0 win over the Fallbrook Warriors last Friday, the Wolverines of Westview High School went to the ground game and defeated RBV, 28-0. The Westview offensive line opened up holes for the running game again posting with their second shutout of the young season beating opponents by a combined score of 69-0
The Wolverines scored on 2 touchdown runs each by Joe Bennett, 2 and 22 yards with teammate Marcellus Kamins(11 carries for 41 yards) adding TD’s of 5 and 19 yards.
Kyle Williams Westview Head Football Coach: “Coming into tonight’s game we knew that Rancho Buena Vista was going to bring a lot of heat on us. Our first concern was to make sure that we protected up front and we did well on that. We gave our QB time and he made great reads along with good, accurate passes.”
Westview Wolverines(2-0) QB Beau Nelson was 21 of 37 for 296 yards. Kquamei Wolford had 5 receptions for 77 yards. Ben O Brian had 5 receptions for 115 yards.
For the Longhorns(1-1), Dorien Richardson led all rushers carrying 20 times for 95 yards. Matthew Llerenas was 6 of 13 for 34 yards.
Westview will go on the road to take on the Dons of Cathedral Catholic. The Longhorns will go up the road a bit as they take on intercity rival, Vista.
Oceanside evened their record at 1 with 35-29 win at Morse. Next week the Pirates host the San Marcos Knights(2-0), winners over Bonita Vista 57-0.
Carlsbad(2-0) traveled to St. Augustine and upset the Saints 22-14. The Lancers will be on the road again next week when they play Sweetwater in National City.
