Manufacturing Fundamentals
Do you already have experience as a supervisor or manager? Are you looking to get into the advanced manufacturing industry because you’ve heard about the need for qualified personnel to replace the retiring baby boomers? This course covers the basic skills required to work in the manufacturing field. Learn about the manufacturing industry around San Diego County. Discover the role of different manufacturing processes, as well as the importance of safety, lean, QC, and the supply chain. Receive an overview of industry organizations, certifications, and state regulations. Get hands-on exposure to different metals, tools, manual mills and lathes, CNC operations and programming.

Intermediate CNC Programming Using MasterCam Mill
MasterCam is the most widely used CAM software in the industry. This intermediate, 30-hour course will provide students with trade-specific tips and tricks, whether they are in the production or the programming department. This course includes additional topics for more intricate programs and designs. HAAS simulators will be used to test run the programs. Tuesdays & Thursdays, 8/1–8/31, 6–9 p.m., at the Technology Career Institute, 2075 Las Palmas Dr., Carlsbad. $75 plus $200 admin fee.
NEW Introduction to the Internet of Things (IOT)
IoT refers to the connection of devices to the Internet. Cars, kitchen appliances, and heart monitors are all examples of current consumer products connected through the IoT. According to Business Insider, there is an expectation that there will be more than 24 billion IoT devices by 2020. That’s approximately four devices for every person on the planet, which means about $6 billion is anticipated to flow into IoT solutions. In this 15-hour introductory course, students will be exposed to four elements of industrial Internet of things. Physical monitoring hardware, device programming, Internet communication via ISP, and creating data displays. Thursdays, 7/27–8/24, 6–9 p.m., at the Technology Career Institute, 2075 Las Palmas Dr., Carlsbad. Fee: $30 plus $100 admin fee.
PLC Programming I
Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) systems have evolved to become the central component to most automation systems today. Learn the basic skills to program, troubleshoot and configure PLC-based automation installations. Allen Bradley and Siemens are two systems that are commonly used within the manufacturing and engineering industries. Take one or both courses to gain a foundation in PLCs. Soldering Basics
This is the perfect entry-level course on electrical soldering! Are you a home hobbyist? Or do you have a job in construction, maintenance, or engineering? Whether you like to fabricate things in your garage or you need practice to become more proficient in your job, this hands-on course will help. Saturdays, 7/22–8/19, 8:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m., at the Technology Career Institute, 2075 Las Palmas Dr., Carlsbad. Fee: $150.
Machining 101
You may have heard that there are lots of jobs in advanced manufacturing. That’s correct. You may like to work with your hands. That may be the case. However, until you actually try machining, you may not know if it’s the right field for you. If you think you might be interested in taking our Machinist Technology program, but want to test it out before taking the 487-hour program, this class is the perfect way to get your feet wet. In a boot camp format, students will get exposed to hand tools, manual mills and lathes, and CNC machines. Through guided practice, students will be able to complete a simple project. Monday–Friday, 8/7-8/11, 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m., at the Technology Career Center, 2075 Las Palmas Dr., Carlsbad. Fee: $50.
Intermediate Machining
Have you taken a machinist course with us or at another institution but want to get more practice on a specific machine in order to get employment or a better position? This is the perfect class to gain more time on manual mills, lathes, or CNC machines. Gain those additional hours and complete projects of your choice. Note: Students will be required to show proof of previous training. Monday–Friday, 8/14–8/25, 8 a.m.–2 p.m., at the Technology Career Institute, 20075 Las Palmas Dr., Carlsbad. Fee $99.
Become a Certified Loan-Signing Agent
Discover fail-proof methods to complete the notarization of each loan package. A loan signing agent notarizes loan packages for clients who are purchasing or refinancing homes. In our seminar, you’ll learn simple steps to ensure success with each client. We’ll cover document preparation and effective communication before, during, and after the signing. We’ll also teach you how to usher clients through the process with the awareness of issues you are allowed to address and ones you must refer to the lender. Unlike most loan signing classes that only teach you to recognize documents, our seminar also gives you hands-on, practical experience that is invaluable to new agents. You not only learn how to recognize each document in a loan package, but how to handle tricky situations, how to interact with clients and signers, and how to find business!
