San Marcos CA— Last night, July 12, 2917 just before 10:00pm, a 31-year-old male from San Diego was riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle eastbound SR-78 west of Barham Dr. at an unknown speed. He was splitting lanes between the #1 and #2 lanes when he collided into the rear of a 2002 Ford Explorer in the #2 lane.
After the collision the motorcyclist veered to the left, hit the concrete center divider wall and was ejected into the westbound # I lane.
It appears that a vehicle traveling in the westbound direction struck the motorcyclist. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead on scene.
As a result a separate four vehicle collision occurred on the westbound side of SR-78.
At this time it is unknown if drugs or alcohol played a factor in this collision. The identity of the motorcyclist has not been released and the incident remains under investigation.
