Oceanside CA—In its inaugural year, Jodi Diamond, Boys & Girls Clubs of Oceanside’s CEO, was nominated as a finalist for Teach for America’s Innovation in Education Award. This award honors individuals for their cutting edge leadership in Education and their commitment to developing the next generation.
Four finalists in four categories were presented to a panel of corporate, non-profit, school and philanthropy leaders, and the winners were announced during a ceremony at the Downtown Library. The event was sponsored by ResMed, the Girard Foundation, Nordson Corporation, Northrop Grumman, SDG&E and ViaSat.
Ms. Diamond has been with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Oceanside (BGCO) for over 10 years, and has passionately led the organization as CEO since September 2013. “It is an honor to be nominated for such a prestigious award. I am humbled to be in the company of all of the other nominees, and congratulate those who won.” said Diamond.
In her time as CEO, Ms. Diamond has re-invented the narrative of Boys & Girls Clubs by integrating S.T.R.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Research, Engineering, Arts and Math) and project based learning activities into after school programming. Ms. Diamond has set the bar high for after school programs. BGCO is no longer defined as simply a place to be while school is out, but a place that prepares youth to graduate from high school with a plan for the future and ultimately ensures youth are ready to step into 21st Century jobs. “Education is not limited to the classroom, and at BGCO we pride ourselves on offering enriching STREAM programming that supplements what is learned during the school day” said Diamond.
