Update: The photos that were posted here and used by the suspect have caused some confusion for the public and angst for the real Lauren Allen. This afternoon the Carlsbad Police Department released this statement: “We would like to formally apologize to Lauren Allen, her family and friends. In a media release today we listed Lauren’s name and photo as the alias used by the suspect, Brittney Lyon. We want to state unequivocally that Lauren Allen herself is in no way a suspect in this case. We are sorry to cause concern or to associate Lauren’s name with this type of criminal behavior. We made a mistake by not thoroughly vetting the investigative information before we released it to the public. We removed the photos. We personally reached out to Lauren to apologize and are conducting an internal investigation to ensure this does not happen again. “
Carlsbad CA— Last year, during the evening of July 5, 2016 the City of Carlsbad Police Department received notification from the Oceanside Police Department that they had been made aware of child molestation that had reportedly occurred in the City of Carlsbad.
Carlsbad investigators took over the case and worked throughout the night to identify and arrest two suspects thought responsible for the crimes. The investigation included multiple search warrants within the 24 hour period and resulted in the collection of evidence.
During the investigation, detectives learned that one of the suspects, 22-year-old Brittney Lyon of Escondido, took children that she was babysitting to a home in the 6300 block of Greenhaven Drive that was occupied by her boyfriend, 22-year-old Samuel Cabrera Jr. At the residence, Cabrera reportedly engaged in sexual molestation of the children while Lyon filmed the acts.
Further investigation into the child molestation case involving Brittney Lyon, and used the alias Lauren Allen, has led detectives to believe there are additional unidentified or unaware victims. We want to state unequivocally that the real Lauren Allen herself is in no way a suspect in this case.
On July 5, 2016, investigators arrested Lyon on suspicion of eight counts of lewd and lascivious acts on children she was babysitting. The suspect in this case, Brittney Lyon, is still in custody.
The City of Carlsbad Police Department is asking for community’s help to find additional families that have used Lyon’s babysitting services. The victims could be in regions outside San Diego including San Bernardino, Riverside and Los Angeles.
Families who have used the babysitting websites www.care.com, www.sitter.com or www.sittercity.com are asked to look at the above photo to see if they hired Lyon as a sitter. On one site families may have hired Lyon while she was using the name Lauren Allen.
If you or anyone you know used Lyon (Allen) as a babysitter, please contact Detective Steve Stallman at 760-931-2293.
