Update: 10:30am 04/18/2017— The victim from Sunday’s fatal hit and run here in Oceanside has been identified as 64-year-old Margaret Rose Examus (DOB: 4/17/53), a resident of Oceanside. The suspect vehicle was located late yesterday afternoon in the 300 block of Stage Coach. No arrests have been made at this time and the investigation is on-going.

Oceanside CA – Last night, Sunday, April 16, 2017 just before 8:00pm, the Oceanside Police Department responded to calls of a serious injury collision involving a vehicle and pedestrian in the 1400 block of Mission Ave. Upon arrival, officers located a female lying in the westbound lanes of Mission Ave and unconscious.
Based on witness statements and physical evidence at the scene, it appears the female was walking southbound across the roadway. The suspect vehicle, a 1998 Honda Civic, silver in color, bearing CA license 7HJW533, was traveling westbound Mission Ave. and estimated to be traveling at 70-80 miles per hour, according to witnesses when it struck the pedestrian. The suspect vehicle was seen entering the northbound I-5 freeway from Mission Ave.
A witness followed the suspect vehicle as it exited onto eastbound SR-76 and was last seen in the area of Loretta St. The pedestrian succumbed to her injuries and died at the scene. The driver of the suspect vehicle was described as either a White or Hispanic male, with a beard, and wearing a baseball cap. The name of the deceased has not been released pending next of kin notification.
