Updated 3/15/2017: The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office has completed the autopsies related to this investigation.
The first victim has been identified as Kimberley Williams. The cause of death was determined to be a single gunshot wound. That manner of death was homicide.
The second victim has been identified as Travis Whitt. The cause of death was determined to be multiple gunshot wounds. The manner of death was homicide.
The suspect has been identified as Richard Contreras. The cause of death was determined to be a single self-inflicted gunshot wound. The manner of death was suicide
Vista CA— Detectives from the Sheriff’s Homicide Detail and the Vista Sheriff’s Station are investigating the suspicious deaths of a female and two males all in their mid-50’s at a residence in the 1400 block of Phil Mar Lane in Vista.
At about 5:33 am, San Diego Sheriff’s Communications Center received a call for assistance, the caller told dispatchers she was at her friend’s home and found three people dead inside. Deputies from the Vista Station responded to the area and found the three individuals who appeared to have been shot inside the residence. At this point, detectives are in the very beginning stages of this investigation, but based on the preliminary information do not believe there are any suspects outstanding.
The Medical Examiner’s Office will be conducting an autopsy and will determine the cause and manner of the deaths.
