San Diego County CA— MiraCosta College’s Community Education and Workforce Development Program is offering the following not-for-credit courses this spring:
Phlebotomy Technician
This is an excellent opportunity for those seeking to enter the medical field as a CPT1 phlebotomy technician. Students are required to complete 20-hours in basic phlebotomy, 20-hours in advanced phlebotomy, 40-hours laboratory course in applied phlebotomy and 40-120 hours of clinical externship in a health care setting. Clinical externships will be provided and supervised by our phlebotomy program staff. Certification test offered in class at the conclusion of the course.

PLC Programming I
Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) systems have evolved to become the central component to most automation systems today. Learn the basic skills to program, troubleshoot and configure PLC-based automation installations. Allen Bradley and
Siemens are two systems that are commonly used within the manufacturing and engineering industries. This 20-hour, hands-on course will focus on Allen-Bradley software.

Lean Manufacturing I
Lean manufacturing is the systematic method for eliminating waste within a manufacturing system. This initial course will consist of 5S, 8 wastes, deep observation, value stream mapping, A3 one-page corrective action reports, and Kaizen events. This course provides practical application of LEAN tools that anyone can use to identify and minimize waste in their own area of control.

Beginning Ballroom
No partner necessary. Learn to dance with confidence, grace, and style. This session will be devoted to the waltz, and the foxtrot. We will cover social dancing, and how to take the material we learn in class to an actual real-life dance situation.

Be Your Own Handyman
This course is packed with hands-on lessons that will teach you the basics of carpentry, plumbing, electrical, wall patch and tile repair. Learn how to replace toilets, install faucets and deal with those pesky leaks, replace electrical outlets, install light fixtures and troubleshoot your electrical wiring. By the end of all four sessions you will be repairing minor wall damage, patching drywall, and installing ceramic tile.

Marvelous Manners for Dogs
A former San Diego Zoo animal trainer and current dog trainer will shares her knowledge and expertise teaching you how to clicker-train your dog. Learn how to teach your dog attention and focus, targeting, sit, down, recall, wait at a boundary, place and loose-leash walking.
