Removal work expected to last two months
San Diego County CA— Starting today, contractors working on the Mid-Coast Trolley extension project will remove trees and shrubs from the Caltrans right-of-way next to the southbound lanes of Interstate 5 (the west side of the freeway from the La Jolla Village Drive off-ramp to the Nobel Drive off-ramp) in the future path of the trolley project.
This work will require traffic controls, including installation of temporary barricades along the west side of southbound I-5. The vegetation removal work is anticipated to last approximately two months. Upon completion of all construction activities required in support of the Mid-Coast Trolley project in this location, vegetation will be planted.
Once complete, the Mid-Coast Trolley project will extend service from Old Town to the University City community, serving the VA Medical Center, UC San Diego, and the busy commercial and residential districts along Genesee Avenue. Major construction work began in 2016, with service expected to begin in 2021.
