Oceanside CA— MiraCosta College’s Community Education and Workforce Development Department is offering the not-for-credit career training course, Introduction to Solar PV Installation.
This course is split into two parts: the first is the theory and practical hands-on experience; the second is preparation for the exam. The class will jointly build a demo solar system using common PV components and electrical parts and tools. The class will integrate theory, code and regulations with practical applications. Topics include fundamentals of solar electric systems, equipment and components, system sizing and design exercises, basic electronics, basic electrical wiring, safety, and a discussion about the viability of solar and other alternative energy systems.
This course helps students pass the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) Entry Level Solar Installer Exam. NABCEP is a nationally recognized certifying agency for solar installers. The Entry Level Certificate can be used to get a job with a solar installation company, as it demonstrates that the person has achieved a basic knowledge of the fundamental principles of the application, design, installation and operation of solar photovoltaic (PV) and solar heating systems.
