Telethon to Raise Money to Address Homeless Crisis

Homeless services provider calls on community to donate locally on September 21

San Diego County CA— Nearly 8,700 men, women and children are homeless in San Diego County on any given night. On September 21, the public is called upon to take action by donating to Father Joe’s Villages to help the organization end homelessness in San Diego one life at a time. Donors who give as little as $55 to Father Joe’s Villages, can give a homeless family a safe, welcoming place to sleep for the night.
“Right now, there are more than 550 homeless families in San Diego,” says Deacon Jim Vargas, President and CEO of Father Joe’s Villages. “When families in need enter one of our housing programs, they get more than just a place to sleep. They access a spectrum of supportive services to meet their unique needs, empowering them to break the cycle of homelessness.”
The telethon will feature powerful stories from Father Joe’s Villages’ clients, including a single mother and her three children who now have a safe home and steady income after spending more than a year on the streets. The telethon will air on CBS 8, KFM-BFM, KFMB 760AM and MeTV from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on September 21. Proceeds from the telethon will benefit Father Joe’s Villages’ programs to help homeless families and individuals become self-sufficient, including safe housing, medical and dental services, mental health support, nutritious meals, therapeutic childcare and effective job training
