Oceanside CA— MiraCosta College has an exciting lineup of concerts set for the month of May. All concerts will be held on the Oceanside Campus, located, 1 Barnard Drive.
Mozart’s “Requiem”: Sunday, May 1 at 3 p.m. in the MiraCosta Concert Hall, Bldg. 2400.
The Masterworks Chorale and Chamber Choir are joined by the San Diego State University Aztec Concert Choir to sing Mozart’s great “Requiem” with a select chamber orchestra of SDSU students. Guest conductor is Dr. Patrick Walders, director of choral studies, SDSU.
Applied Classical Recital: Sunday, May 15, 3 p.m. in the MiraCosta Concert Hall, Bldg. 2400.
Enjoy an evening recital of classical music featuring the best performances from pianists, signers and instrumentalists in the applied music program. Concert proceeds from this event will support student scholarships.
Jazz & Commercial Music Showcase/Faculty-Student Jam: Thursday, May 12 at 7:30 p.m. and Friday, May 13 at 7:30 p.m. in Studio A, Bldg. 2200.
The first half of the program showcases student performers from the Applied Jazz & Commercial Music Program and Spring 2016 Jazz/Commercial Improvisation course. Then in the second half, students and faculty share the stage for a jam session, one of the most interactive and authentic expressions of the jazz tradition. Concert proceeds from this event will support student scholarships.
Frequency Solo Nights: Thursday, May 12 at 7:30 p.m. and Friday, May 13 at 7:30 p.m. in the MiraCosta Concert Hall, Bldg. 2400.
The final performances of the school year by the Frequency Vocal Jazz Ensemble with feature selected soloists and small groups performing contemporary and classic jazz repertoire, primarily arranged by the students in the ensemble. Matt Falker, director.
An American Tribute: Saturday, May 21 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, May 22 at 3 p.m.
Join the MiraCosta College Symphony Orchestra for Ferde Grope’s timeless American classic, “The Grand Canyon Suite,” in its entirety, as well as Arthur Foote’s classic, “Francesca da Rimini.” This concert will also include spectacular performances from the Music Teachers’ Association of California Concerto Competition winners.
