Oceanside CA— At last night’s Oceanside Unified School District (OUSD) Board of Education meeting, Board President Mike Blessing announced that the OUSD Board of Education approved the appointment of Reginald “Reggie” Thompkins as the district’s new Deputy Superintendent.
Thompkins has more than 25 years of experience in education including being a classroom teacher, assistant principal, principal, and basketball coach. Most recently, he served as the Administrative Director, Instructional Support Division at the Corona-Norco Unified School District where he was responsible for the supervision/evaluation of principals and oversaw the professional development for K-12 assistant principals and counselors. He served as a member of the district leadership team working with The Consortium for Educational Change to increase collaboration between management and the teachers union and was a member of the Superintendent’s Cabinet.
Thompkins also served in a dual role as President of the California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section and the California Interscholastic Federation for the State of California.
The Deputy Superintendent will report directly to the Superintendent and will serve as the district’s second-in-command. In this role, he will oversee all principals, Curriculum and Instruction, Technology and Information Services, Assessment, Special Education, and Educational Support Services.
Thompkins has a Master of Education from Azusa Pacific University and a Bachelor of Arts degree from California State University San Bernardino. His first day is still being determined.
