Oceanside CA— This morning, crews from Oceanside, Carlsbad and Camp Pendleton Fire Departments responded to a report of a commercial structure fire at 487 Harbor Drive, the Denny’s Restaurant in northwestern Oceanside. While responding to the incident, firefighters were advised that smoke was filling the restaurant and occupants began to evacuate the building.
The first engine arrived at the scene in less than five minutes after dispatch and found smoke coming from the roof near the rear utility area of the building. Attack lines were advanced inside the structure for an aggressive primary search of the restaurant and locate the origin of the fire which appeared to be located in the attic space. Additional fire crews placed ladders, went up on the roof to ventilate the structure, and allow for the heated smoke to clear the inside of the restaurant and locate the origin of the fire. As more personnel arrived, a complete evacuation of the restaurant and search of all occupants was completed.
The fire was contained to the attic space and roof HVAC unit toward the rear of the restaurant. No other exposures near the building were affected and the fire was completely under-control in twenty one minutes. Addition roof material was removed to overhaul and locate other hotspots of fire found under the roof material. The utilities were shut down temporarily to isolate what appeared to be a fire that started near one of the HVAC units.
Thirty-one personnel responded with 5 Engines, 2 Trucks, 2 Ambulances and 1 Rescue Squad,
