Noted Historian and Lecturer to speak before Mystery Book Club meeting
Oceanside CA— Enjoy a special visit from historian John Anderson at 5:00 p.m., before Mystery Book Club meets at 6:00 p.m., on Wednesday, February 24, 2016, in the Civic Center Library Foundation Room, 330 North Coast Highway, Oceanside.
Mr. Anderson will compare the depiction of the Los Angeles Police Department from 1940-1960 in James Ellroy’s L.A. Confidential to historical information. Mr. Anderson will explore the rumors of secret intelligence units, corruption and racial profiling. He will parse fact from myth to reveal a complex portrait of a great city’s police force pulled into the era of great change, and the legacy resulting from its adaptation to growth and changing social climate.
Mr. Anderson is a former host of L.A. “Movies and American Society,” and co-chair of the North County Film Club. Following the program, feel free to stay for a discussion of the gripping noir book L.A. Confidential by James Ellroy.
