Vista CA— Monday night, February 8, 2016 at approximately 8:15 p.m., San Diego County Sheriff’s Deputies from the Vista Patrol Station responded to a vehicle versus pedestrian collision on N. Emerald Drive at Jonathon Place in the city of Vista. Emerald Drive marks the border between Vista and Oceanside
Deputies and Oceanside Police Officers arrived within minutes and found a 69-year-old male pedestrian lying in the roadway. Paramedics from the Oceanside Fire Department arrived at about the same time and transported the male to Tri-City Hospital where he was flown by helicopter to Scripps La Jolla.
Initial investigation revealed the pedestrian had been crossing westbound on N. Emerald Drive outside a crosswalk. Several northbound vehicles swerved to avoid hitting the pedestrian. A southbound vehicle also swerved to avoid a collision and a second southbound vehicle struck the pedestrian in the southbound traffic lane.
The pedestrian collided with the front driver’s side of the vehicle and windshield, which caused a non-survivable head injury. The victim’s name is being withheld, pending family notification. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene. Alcohol was not a factor in the collision. Several witnesses were interviewed at the scene. Anyone who witnessed the collision but did not provide a statement is urged to contact Deputy Guerrero at the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.
