Pick Up Your Paws And Move Your Tail
Saturday, February 20th, 9 am – 2 pm
Encinitas CA— There’s only one day each year when dogs are allowed in the legendary San Diego Botanic Garden (SDBG). For only the 4th time in history dogs (and their people) can stroll through the Gardens during the “Fourth Annual 5K Paw Walk in the Garden” on Saturday, February 20, 2016. Rancho Coastal Humane Society (RCHS) and the San Diego Botanic Garden are once again joining paws to support programs for people, plants, and animals.
“Our pets are part of our families,” according to Nick Winfrey, RCHS Vice President of Planning and Development. “What better way to start a Saturday than taking the family…the whole family…for a walk at San Diego Botanic Garden?”
“The 5K Paw Walk quickly became the fastest growing outdoor event for dogs and their families in the county,” says Sam Beukema, Education and Events Manager for the Garden. “We joke about it, but it’s true. This is the walk every dog is begging to go on.”
The first paw crosses the starting line at 9:30. Registered walkers will have full access to San Diego Botanic Garden until 2:00. The Walk is not competitive. Participants can cover the full 5 kilometer / 3.1 mile course or turn around at any time. You don’t need a dog to participate.
There will be pet products, food (for people), treats (for dogs), information and displays for animal lovers, a pet first aid station, and (of course) dogs!
The rules for the 5K Paw Walk in the Garden are pretty simple:
- Dogs must be kept on leash at all times.
- No leashes longer than 6 feet.
- No dogs in heat.
- Owners must clean up after their dogs.
- Limit two dogs per person.
- Dogs must be up to date on vaccinations.
