Oceanside CA— The deceased person found on South Coast Highway on January 1, 2016 has been identified and the Medical Examiner’s Office has notified the next of kin.
The person has been identified as Mark Andrew Slaughter – date of birth April 4, 1970 – of Fallbrook.
The Oceanside Police Department continues to seek the public’s assistance in this following incident: On January 1, 2016 at 8:40 pm Oceanside Police Officers responded to a radio call of man down in the bike path in the 2100 block of S. Coast Highway. Upon arrival officers found a white, male adult, approximately 40 years old, on the ground with injuries to his face and the back of his head. Paramedics arrived on scene to provide medical aid and transported the subject to a local hospital. The person was pronounced dead at the hospital. A detective from the police department responded to the scene and then met with the Medical Examiner Investigator at the hospital. No identification was found on the male. The Medical Examiner Investigator could not describe the mechanism of injury to the back of the male’s head or any preliminary possible cause of death.
The case has been classified as a “suspicious death”.
The Oceanside Police Department is asking that anyone who may have been with Mr. Slaughter earlier that date, or witnessed this incident to call the department at (760) 435-4892 and leave a message for detective Wallace.
