Oceanside CA— MiraCosta College kicks off its Black History Month activities with its third annual Umoja Program fundraising concert, “Soul Fusion,” Saturday, February 6, 5:15–7:30 p.m. A VIP reception will precede the program at 4 p.m. The event will take place at the MiraCosta College Concert Hall (Bldg. 2400), located on the Oceanside Campus at 1 Barnard Drive.
Performing artists will include gospel group David Dredden and Undefeated; special guest artist and Grammy-award winning Earth Wind and Fire saxophonist, Gary Bias; and highly acclaimed, spoken-word poetry collective, Fiveology. Professor Anthony Blacksher, a.k.a. “Ant Black,” will serve as master of ceremonies.
“The concert is the kick-off event for MiraCosta’s Black History Month activities and the money raised will provide financial assistance to Umoja students facing unforeseen financial emergencies and catastrophic events that may disrupt their education,” says associate counselor and program coordinator Don Love. “Additionally, the funds will support scholarships to help deserving students complete their education.”
General admission tickets are $20; VIP tickets $30. VIP ticket holders will attend a reception preceding the concert with hors d’oeuvres, artisan cheeses and crackers and local wine. Tickets are available for purchase at miracosta.edu/umojatix. For more information, contact Kate Coleman at 760.757.2121, x6933.
