Oceanside CA— Mother nature put on another spectacular show this morning as waves hit the coastline at high tide dousing people and vehicles traveling on the Strand. There were more onlookers today than on Tuesday with a constant stream of vehicles making their way along the Strand to get an up close but dry view of the surf.
“It’s like playing in the rain” exclaimed Simone Soda, a long-time Oceanside resident, “It doesn’t happen often but when it does, it makes you feel like a kid again.”
“What a great show” said Joe Curley of Oceanside as people cheered another direct hit by a wave on a passing mini van.
One man, who didn’t want to be identified, drew a lot of attention as he stood beneath lifeguard tower 7 wearing a long black overcoat while getting pounded by the surf. ” It’s exciting and fun. I know people think I’m weird for doing this but I’m really doing it for a reason.” he explained “I originally started doing this for health reasons[going into the ocean covered up]. My doctor told me I had to stay out of the sun but I needed to get exercise and lose weight. My blood pressure has dropped, my cholesterol is down and I’ve lost weight since I began doing this. Even though it looks sort of weird, it’s therapeutic and it’s fun.”
