Carlsbad CA— Beginning on September 4 at 7 p.m., the City of Carlsbad Police Department in conjunction with the California Highway Patrol will be conducting a DUI sobriety/safety checkpoint. The location of the checkpoint will be El Camino Real at Hosp Way.
Sobriety checkpoints are a technique used by law enforcement to evaluate drivers for signs of alcohol or drug impairment at specific points on the roadway.
According to the California Highway Patrol, “Sobriety checkpoint operations increase the public’s awareness of the hazards of drinking and driving and, in many cases, serve as a deterrent to those drivers who may otherwise drive impaired.” www.chp.ca.gov
“Every day in America, 28 people die as a result of drunk driving crashes” notes MADD. “In 2012, 29.1 million people admitted to driving under the influence of alcohol.” www.MADD.org
The checkpoint will be conducted from 7 p.m. through 12:30 a.m. the following day.
“The reduction of impaired driving is everyone’s concern,” stated Traffic Officer and program coordinator Rod Mortensen. “Working together we can save lives.”
