Oceanside CA— Six or 106, a ride in a fire truck is always fun. That’s was what Agnes McKee, of Oceanside, got to do today as she celebrated her 106th birthday. Agnes was able to break away from her birthday party at the Fairwinds Retirement Community and was treated to a ride around the block in an Oceanside Fire truck. “I really like the lights and siren” she told Oceanside Mayor Jim Wood.
Other guests included Oceanside Police Chief, Frank McCoy and Oceanside Fire Battalion Chief, Felipe Rodriguez who joined the large crowd of friends and well wishers gathered at Fairwinds.
Large crowds don’t phase Agnes any longer because she is a bit of a celebrity herself. Agnes made national news last year when she threw out the first pitch at a Padre game during Oceanside Day at Petco Park. Although she wasn’t originally a Padres fan, since she was threw out the first pitch she watches them regularly on TV said Sheila Alston with Fairwinds.
Agnes has lived at Fairwinds for thirteen years. “She is still very active. She plays bridge twice a week, Bingo, Wii Bowling and walks around the complex which takes her about thirty minutes” continued Shelia “She has a lot of friends and really motivates the other residents to do more.”
