Oceanside CA— This morning, July 19, 2015, at approximately 10:21 a.m., Oceanside and Carlsbad units were dispatched for a residential structure fire at 410 South Freeman Street, Oceanside.
Oceanside Engine 2111 arrived within four minutes after dispatched, and found a two-story, 15-unit condominium complex with smoke showing from several attic vents. They initiated an offensive interior fire attack inside of unit #11 and found fire in the attic. They teamed up with Oceanside Engine 2112 and Medic 2191 to extinguish the attic fire. Oceanside Ladder Truck 2177 and Medic 2197 ventilated the attic area to remove the hot gases and smoke that had accumulated over several condominium units.
Oceanside Engines 2113 and 2117 ensured the first and second floors were evacuated. Carlsbad Engine 2213 remained outside to meet the OSHA requirement of having at least two firefighters dedicated the outside of the building for firefighter safety.
The fire was contained to the attic area over one second-floor condominium unit and extinguished within 20 minutes after the fire was reported. The remaining 14 condominiums were saved and the occupants were able to return to their homes. The fire was determined to have started in the attic area over unit #11 and was electrical in nature. Two electronic components, likely to be modems and/or routers, were found at the point of origin and were completely burned.
The 15 units within the building are estimated to be worth a total of $4.6 million and the dollar loss was kept to $25,000 for the building and $5,000 for the contents. There were no injuries as a result of this fire.
