San Diego County CA— The Fire Safe Council of San Diego County honored local fire safe council volunteers for exceptional service to their communities in the area of wildfire prevention at the 10th Annual Volunteer Awards Luncheon held on June 19, 2015.
Representatives from Bureau of Land Management, US Forest Service, CAL FIRE and the San Diego County Fire Authority were keynote speakers at the event. In addition, San Diego legislators representing the City Council, Board of Supervisors, State Assembly, and State Senate were in attendance to honor these volunteers with certificates of recognition. Fire Safe Council President and Viejas Fire Chief, Don Butz, presented the 2015 awards to:

Run entirely by volunteers, fire safe councils work closely with agency representatives to identify risks and carry out projects to address those risks. “Community fire safe councils and the volunteers who run them provide a key link between the efforts of local, state, tribal, and federal agencies and the wildfire prevention needs of individual communities,” said Sheryl Landrum, Executive Director of the Fire Safe Council of San Diego County. “They are a vital piece of San Diego’s wildfire prevention efforts and our neighborhood watch for keeping San Diego fire safe.”
