Escondido CA— Early this morning, March 15, 2015 at about 6:28 am, officers from the Escondido Police Department were dispatched to the area of El Norte Pkwy and the Flood Control Channel regarding an unknown injury collision involving a solo vehicle. Officers arrived on scene and found a white Chevy Malibu had struck the concrete abutment for the bridge over-crossing.
Preliminary investigation indicates the driver, 24-year-old Amanda Bauer of Santee, was driving westbound on El Norte Pkwy from Valley Pkwy. It appears at this time Bauer was intoxicated and may have fallen asleep as she approached the Flood Control Channel. Bauer’s vehicle veered to the right, jumped the raised curb and collided head-on into the concrete bridge abutment.
As Bauer was not wearing a seatbelt, the resulting impact caused her to sustained significant injuries to her right leg and head. Bauer was transported to Palomar Hospital by Escondido Fire Medics for treatment. Bauer has a suspended driver’s license and a prior arrest for driving under the influence. There were no passengers in her car.
