Carlsbad CA — On Wednesday March 11, at 5:26 p.m., the City of Carlsbad Police Department responded to a domestic battery at a gas station, 899 Palomar Airport Rd.
The first officer arrived within two minutes and witnessed the suspect battering the victim. The officer ordered the suspect to stop. The suspect looked at the officer before fleeing on foot with the officer giving chase. Additional Carlsbad police officers responded and established a perimeter.
A helicopter from the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department Aerial Support to Regional Enforcement Agencies (ASTREA) responded to assist Carlsbad police officers with the search and to provide public address announcements of the suspect’s description.
As officers searched the area where the suspect was last observed (a nearby hotel) a citizen reported that a person, matching the suspect’s description, was hiding behind an ice machine. The suspect was taken into custody and booked into the Vista Detention Facility for felony domestic battery and resisting arrest.
A second man, who is believed to be an associate of the domestic violence suspect, was located in the area and arrested for felony arrest warrants and booked into the Vista Detention Facility.
The domestic violence suspect was identified as 24 year old Raymond Hackett from Antioch, Calif.
The suspect arrested for the arrest warrants was identified as 20 year old Stephon Ward from San Diego, California.
