Del Mar CA— The Junk Bonanza, a 10-year must-shop market experience for vintage lovers, is coming to the Del Mar Fairgrounds March 20-22, choosing California as the site of its first show outside of Minnesota.
The Bonanza is long-revered by shoppers for its artful vignettes of castoff and vintage finds, antiques, architectural salvage and artisan-repurposed goods. Each twice-yearly Minneapolis show draws vendors and more than 12,000 visitors from throughout the United States for a select shopping experience: Merchandise is 40 years old or older, or created using items of that age. Juried vendors offer an amazing trove of furniture, decor, jewelry, textiles and apparel, and each is chosen specifically for their quality and mix.
Now, California shoppers, too, can experience this distinctive market. Bonanza founder Ki Nassauer has grown the original Bonanza from its humble start with 19 juried vendors to hundreds who vie to sell at its shows. Nassauer calls this event “the place to be for shoppers who are as serious about vintage as they are about fun.”
Among special activities at this show:
- An inspirational vintage Weddings Lab featuring show-and-tell and how-to for gorgeous, vintage-inspired wedding decor and tabletop. Our Weddings Lab installation, curated by California vintage expert Jeni Maus of Found Vintage Rentals and celebrity wedding and event designer, Jo Gartin of LoveLuckandAngels.com, will also offer creative ideas for cake, floral, accessories and dishware. Premier wedding blog Green Wedding Shoes is also promoting the Lab, which will appeal not only to brides-to-be, but to all those looking for fresh Spring entertaining ideas.
- Free hour-long workshops daily will give attendees hands-on experience with Chalk Paint® by Annie Sloan, the self-priming, clay-based paint prized by DIYers.
- Vintage VWs and surfing memorabilia will be on display to help attendees feel the right vibe in the Bonanza’s first California show! The Bonanza has partnered with local collectors and the California Surf Museum to make this a great experience.
