Carlsbad CA— The City of Carlsbad Police Department is investigating a hit and run collision involving a bicyclist who had been struck by a vehicle near La Costa Ave. and Piraeus St., on Saturday, February 14, at approximately 10:00 a.m. The bicyclist sustained moderate injuries as a result of the collision including a concussion and abrasions. The vehicle fled the scene following the collision.
An unidentified female witness provided the victim with a license plate number for the suspect vehicle. Carlsbad Police Traffic Accident Investigators have conducted further investigation into the potential suspect vehicle. On February 26, Investigators located and impounded the suspect vehicle. The suspect vehicle is a black 2005 BMW 530i, which is registered to an owner in Carlsbad.
Investigators are continuing their investigation in an attempt to identify the driver of the vehicle during the collision.
The Carlsbad Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in locating witnesses to this collision. The police department would like to speak with the female witness who provided the suspect vehicle license plate number to the victim. This witness is described as a White female, in her 40’s, driving a gold or tan SUV.
Investigators have also learned that there might have been a ‘sign twirler’ near the intersection that might have witnessed the collision.
