Sacramento CA— Larry Schallock, a member of the Tri-City Healthcare District Board of Trustees, has been awarded the California Hospital Association’s (CHA) 2014 Leadership in Governance Award. This award recognizes hospital and health system board trustees who demonstrate a commitment to health care policies and issues.
Schallock, a retired hospital pharmacist, has been a board member of the Oceanside-based hospital district since 2002. He served as board chair from 2006-2008 and 2013-present. In 2011, Schallock also served as chair of CHA’s Governance Forum.
“As health care organizations become more complex to govern, it is crucial that hospital and health system trustees participate in the active decision-making and strategic thinking needed to anticipate the future demands of the health care marketplace,” CHA President/CEO C. Duane Dauner said. “Larry Schallock has been an exceptional hospital trustee, helping to guide Tri-City through numerous challenges resulting from the rapidly changing health care delivery system.”
In addition to his work on the Tri-City Board, Schallock was the past chair of the Government Affairs Committee at the California Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists.
“I am very honored to receive this recognition as our board strives to see our hospital and community health flourish,” Schallock said. “With the teamwork from our board, I have used my leadership role to prioritize the medical center’s financial growth and stability, strategic planning and support for the highest quality of care for the residents of our community.”
As one of the largest health care trade associations in the nation, CHA represents more than 400 hospitals and health systems in California. The association advocates for patients and hospitals, promotes public health policy and is hospitals’ voice at the state and federal levels. CHA has offices in Sacramento and Washington, D.C.
