San Diego County CA— The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department is joining law enforcement agencies across the nation for the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign to stop impaired driving this holiday season. From now to January 1st, deputies will be conducting additional DUI patrols to find impaired drivers before they hurt or kill someone.
Deputies will also conduct a warrant service operation targeting DUI offenders who failed to appear in court. DUI Checkpoints are scheduled between 8:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m. in the following Sheriff’s contract cities:
• December 19 – Imperial Beach and Santee
• December 20 – Encinitas
So far this year, more than 1,400 people have been arrested for DUI by the Sheriff’s Department. In 2013, deputies arrested 1,888 people for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
December has been declared National Impaired Driving Prevention Month. The Sheriff’s Department works all year long to protect everyone from impaired drivers.”Some people will forget to be responsible and drink and drive this holiday season,” said Sheriff Bill Gore. “Never get behind the wheel after drinking.
Remember: DRIVE SOBER OR GET PULLED OVER!”The Sheriff’s Department has these tips for a safe holiday season:
• Plan a safe way home before the festivities begin
• Before drinking, designated a sober driver and leave your car keys at home
• If you’re impaired, use a taxi, call a sober friend or family member or use public transportation
• If you see an impaired driver on the road, call 9-1-1 immediately
Here are some sober rider options for the holidays:
• Tipsy Tow
• Be My Designated Driver
• Metropolitan Transit System (MTS)
• North County Transit District (NCTD)
If you are caught driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, you will go to jail. To watch a public safety video on the high price of drinking and driving, follow the Sheriff’s Department on VIMEO:
